OH MELO VELO 2008

Oh Melo Velo rides again in 2008!    Come join the usual suspects for this unique ride series.    Now more than 25 years running!

Not the kickoff ride of 2008, second Wednesday of June before we captured the start.

  • Date: March 12 through September 24

  • Time: each Wednesday at 6:00pm EDT !PROMPT! starts, finish at sunset.

  • Location: MacGregor Village Shopping Center, South of US-64 at traffic signal immediately after US-1 splits off to Sanford.

  • Pace: whatever your heart can stand!

  • You can ride a fixed time or distance:
    ride 1/2 your time and U-turn, or
    ride 1/2 your distance and U-turn.

  • Duration/Distance

    • Distance is calculated to 18 mph average,
      bonus segment often routed,
      approximately 800 miles total for the year.

    • March 12: initial duration is 1:30,
      initial distance is 30 miles.

    • June 18: increase duration to 2:36,
      increase distance to 48 miles.

    • September 24: taper duration to 1:05,
      taper distance to 20 miles.

  • All routes are out, U-turn, and return.

  • Most routes start/finish on Old Raleigh Road to the West.

  • Some routes start/finish on US-64/Tryon Rd/Regency to the South.

  • Warmup and stay together for 5 minutes.

  • No stops.

  • March 12:  Post-ride chow&guzzle at El Dorado on FE's endless supply of 241 coupons or MacGregor Draft House if riders prefer
  • May 26, Monday, 9:30 AM:  Rock and Roll to the Rockin' Comet for breakfast
  • June 18 !DEFERRED!:  73 KM Time Trial will NOT ride this date.

  • August 13:  Spin & Swim
  • October 8, Wednesday, 7:00 PM:  Potluck
  • November 11, Tuesday, 10:00 AM:  Veteran's Day ride to Fuquay-Varina for lunch
    • Ed and Rich's traditional Veteran's Day ride for Huavos Rancheros lunch at the oft-renamed Mexican restaurant (El Dorado backup)
      with a celebratory stop at the grave of Revolutionary War veteran, John Norris, Jr.  Click here to view his headstone.

      Distance: 54 miles, 37 before lunch, 17 after.
      Pace: 16 MPH no drop, + or - depending on ridership.
